5-Step Simple & Effective AM Routine for your eyes - Morning Routine for Eyes

If you've just started working on self care, well, your'e not alone honey! It's one thing to watch these amazing 10 step routines. It's a world of another to actually practice them.. Especially if you're a lazy little one like me! 😅 So, I decided to share with you a simple 5-step morning routine that I started practicing during the pandemic to protect my overtly exerted eyes. Here are a bunch of reasons why you could be someone who needs to set a routine & pamper your eyes:

  • Your day job involves working on a laptop for more than 2 hours a day
  • Your mobile screen time is above 2 hours a day (all the Youtube & Whatsapp & Online Shopping & Insta... the list doesn't end! 😋)
  • You watch 2-3 hours of television during the day
  • You use contact lenses for more than 2 hours a day
  • You have itchy / dry eyes
  • You're eyes puff up when you wake up

All of these are ways in which you're eyes are being put through unreasonable stress & a sign that they need to be taken care of. While a few good changes would be to use anti-glare glasses during the day of work and regulating your phone usage, the following are some healthy everyday habits to inculcate to keep your eyes fresh and healthy, I've made sure they're easy to do on a regular basis & don't require any exceptional tools or cosmetics.

  • Don't wake up with the phone in your hand : This is common practice. Last thing you do before sleep is send a good night messgae & first thing you wake up is a Goodmorning! While the emotion is much appreciated, this really messes with your eyes & is an extremely unhealthy way to start a lovely day!

  • Walk to you balcomy / window & glance through greenery & the open sky instead : As simple as that. The Greens, Blues & Reds (primary colors) in nature are meant to activate our eyes in a healthy and sustainable way. Spend 2 minutes looking around you and use the opportunity to calm yourself down and prepare yourself for the day.

  • Do not rub your eyes when you wake up : Again a common practice, this causes physical friction around your eyes can cause wrinkles in the long run. Frantically rubbing your eyes can also hurt your eye lashes and cause breakage. More importantly this can cause inflammation around your eyes.

  • Wash your eyes with cold water : Gently wash your eyes to remove any dirt or particles that might have accumulated. This will help clean your eyes and also freshen you up, driving away morning groginess. If your eyes are itchy it is a good idea to wash them with water, instead of itching them or rubbing them.

  • Use ice-cubes wrapped in a cotton cloth / tissue to massage your eyes : If your'e eyes still feel dull or itchy, use a light cotton cloth to wrap 2 ice cubes and gently massage the area around your eyes with it. This also helps with puffy eyes. Do not use ice directly on your skin as the extreme temperature may cause breakouts on your skin. Use a tissue to wrap the ice if you cannot find a cotton cloth at home.

  • Last Step : Use a retinol based eye cream to moisturize your eyes : The area around our eyes and lips are the most sensitive parts of our facial skin. So, keep that in mind when you massage or apply moisturizers around them. They need targeted products and technique, i.e, your usual day cream or SPF may not be suitable for your eye area. Invest in a good eye cream to keep the skin around your eyes healthy and supply. Also, be gently while massaging this area.
So yea, to summarize, add these 5 simple steps in your morning routine to keep your eyes healthy and beautiful.
  • Step 1 : Don't wake up with the phone in your hand
  • Walk to you balcomy / window & glance through greenery & the open sky instead
  • Step 2 : Do not rub your eyes when you wake up
  • Step 3 : Wash your eyes with cold water
  • Step 4 : Use ice-cubes wrapped in a cotton cloth / tissue to massage your eyes
